Raoul Wallenberg International School opens in Palma!

In the fall 2024, the Raoul Wallenberg School will open its first international school in Palma, the Raoul Wallenberg International School. The school is located in a historic building from 1927 with a lot of charm and character. The building was previously owned by the Vatican and is now undergoing an extensive renovation where great emphasis is placed on preserving the building’s unique character and origins. The school grounds are surrounded by a high wall and extend over 10,000 square meters. There will be generous outdoor areas for play and activities such as basketball and soccer fields, beach volleyball, areas for cultivation and a lovely orange grove.

The school is located in the quiet and pleasant residential area La Vileta in Palma. There are good public transport connections and the school will provide efficient transport solutions to allow pupils to be dropped off and picked up safely and securely.

The Raoul Wallenberg International School will offer education in English and is aimed at children and teenagers aged 5-18 of all nationalities. The school will follow the Cambridge curriculum and meet the requirements of the local Spanish education authority. Spanish will be compulsory throughout the school as well as Catalan for local students. Local history and culture will be emphasized as well as that of the British curriculum.

The vision for Raoul Wallenberg International School is to contribute positively to the development of the local and global society. The school must be a safe and developing environment and a meeting place for all ages. Good role models who provide inspiration and strength are important for everyone, especially for children and young people. The Raoul Wallenberg schools were founded with Raoul Wallenberg as a role model to give children and young people a solid foundation in terms of knowledge, skills and character for life’s various challenges.

Raoul Wallenberg is a symbol of courage and humanity. The school’s four watchwords, honesty, compassion, courage and action, are inspired by Raoul Wallenberg and his life’s deeds. The school’s ambition is to meet each individual child and young person where they are and carry out a developmental journey towards the goals that each individual sets and has the prerequisites for. They see it as their task to lay a character- and knowledge-based foundation for the students so that they, both as young people and adults, can make a positive difference in society, both privately and in their professional life.

Raoul Wallenberg was a young businessman and diplomat who, during the latter part of World War II, managed to save thousands of Hungarian Jews in Budapest from persecution by the Nazis. Some estimates suggest that he through his humanitarian courage and action saved as many as 100,000 thousand people. Raoul Wallenberg’s selfless actions earned him international acclaim. Despite his heroic actions, he mysteriously disappeared in Soviet custody after the war.

The Raoul Wallenberg School was founded in 2005 and the first primary school in Bromma was opened in 2006. The company currently operates 17 schools in Sweden. Raoul Wallenberg International School-Palma de Mallorca will be RWIS’s first and long-awaited international venture!
