Sóller is a beautiful traditional town situated in the heart of the ‘valley of oranges’ in the northwest coast of Mallorca. It is a town rich in history, full of beautiful architecture. We will give you some tips and ideas on how you could spend a day or maybe even a weekend exploring, swimming and eating your way through some of the best Sóller has to offer. Sóller lies 3km inland from its port, Puerto de Sóller, surrounded by mountains. The Modernist town is unique compared to the rest on the island due to its geographical isolation, being surrounded by the Tramuntana mountain range. In the 19th century, the area was isolated from all other major towns on the island, making it easier to trade with French merchants arriving by sea. Sóller became wealthy because of the valley’s rich citrus groves. The oranges were shipped to France from Port de Sóller. Many locals went to work in France and returned wealthy to the town to build some of the striking Modernism/Art Nouveau properties that beauty Sóller today. Sóller is notable for these houses built in the early twentieth century, particularly those on the Gran Via which reflect the fin de siècle French term meaning “end of century” Art Nouveau styles. The town is made up of narrow streets lined with historic houses of the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries. The focus of the town is Plaça Constitució which is surrounded by cafés and has a fountain in its center. Here you can enjoy a fresh orange juice made with the famous Sóller oranges or coffee. The plaça and surrounding area comes alive on Saturdays when the local market takes place and shoppers and traders create a buzz. The town is a good shopping center if you are looking for typical local Mallorquin products and crafts. Make sure not to miss trying an ice cream from Fet a Sólleror even better visit their shop in Sóller.
Plaça Constitució also hosts the church of Sant Bartomeu, the dominated distinctive valley landmark. The original building dates from some time before 1236. In 1904 a renovation of the baroque 16th-century church (1688–1733) was made. The elements of its earlier Gothic interior were preserved and a beautiful modernist façade was added on. Other attractions around the plaça are the ajuntament (town hall) and my personal favorite Banco de Sóller. This is a remarkable 1912 Modernism/Art Nouveau building with typical details from the artcritical style such as defining ironwork. Behind it is the Catalan architect Joan Rubió i Bellver, a follower of Antoni Gaudí. The bank’s organization was founded in 1889 with the money of emigrants who returned wealthy to Sóller. This truly traditional village can also offer you to visit the restored Modernism/Art Nouveau building, Can Prunera, which houses a fine permanent collection of art (including Kandinksy, Picasso, Warhol, local artists Miquel Barceló and Francesca Martí). The Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences and the Jardí Botànic are on the outskirts of the town. With its 14,000 inhabitants, Sóller is the commercial and cultural center of the Tramuntana Sierra and the starting point of many itineraries following mountain and coastal paths.
Sóller is linked by the historic railway, the Ferrocarril de Sóller, and by a highway with a tunnel, to Palma. Getting to Sóller is easy; you can drive, take a taxi or get there by public transport from Plaza España. Or try one of the most famous attractions and get there the good old fashioned traditional way with the Ferrocarril de Sóller. The Ferrocarril as well was built on the profits from the orange and lemon trade and completed in 1911. It departs from Palma and takes about 1 hour. The journey is an experience in itself as it passes through some wonderfully scenic routes through the countryside and mountains.
Sóller Tennis Club is probably the club with the best views in Mallorca. This club strives to become more than a sports installation. They want to be a meeting point and a social center, where you can meet friends, enjoy sports, and have a good time! Sóller tennis club offers a picturesque opportunity, to have the luxury to practice your favorite sport in a privileged surrounding with unique views. You can choose between 4 paddle courts, 2 with glass walls, 2 with concrete walls. There are 4 tennis courts as well and a spectacular outdoor pool to enjoy during the hot summer days. The pool is open to everyone making it a great family affair!
This is not your average chiringuito (beach restaurant/bar), Patiki encourages us to see them as an extension of our homes, a beach house for us all. You can spend your day on the deck, on the beach, swimming in the Mediterranean, eating, drinking or just be still, the options are plenty. Farm to table right on the beach. Flavorful colorful delicious fresh food that is a celebration of the raw ingredients supplied by neighboring growers. The menu rolls with the seasons, changing every day as they use what they have and create with what is delivered to them.
Es Reco is a relaxed restaurant right on the beach. You can easily spend the entire day here starting with the morning coffee, relaxing while the Port of Sóller slowly wakes up, or a chilled beachfront lunch with the family while the kids play in the sea. Es Reco also offers a happy hour for cocktails before dinner that shouldn’t be missed! Dine while the sun slowly sets in the Mediterian, enjoying Spanish popular dishes such as tapas, grilled meats and fresh fish.

This friendly local boat hire business is dedicated to show visitors the beauty of the northern coast of Mallorca and the Tramontana Mountain Range. They provide trips and excursions in picturesque environments. You also have the option of hiring a skipper or drive the boat yourself – you have a range of boats to choose from.
Randemar is situated in one of the most privileged areas of the Port de Sóller in an old Mallorcan home just in front of the sea. A dynamic husband/wife team is behind Randemar, where the combination of delicious Mediterranean dishes with stylish and modern décor is met. A mix that enhances the experience and captivates the visitor. The very talented interior designer Cristina Egurrola is the one behind the design.
Terraza Mar is situated in hotel Eden, and has one of the most spectacular balconies to the “Serra de Tramuntana”. The sunsets can’t get more marvelous than this! Besides the views the atmosphere is electric, how can’t it not be with the 360º views of Puerto de Sóller bay and the valley of Sóller. Relax to the vibrant chill-out music while enjoying exquisite cocktails watching the movements of seagulls, the small typical Mallorquin boats entering the port. If you are after an authentic delight for your senses with a lot of fury of the Mediterranean Sea, then this is the place for you.
Gran Hotel Sóller reminds me of the hotel from the movie “The Grand Budapest Hotel”. It has the same majestic turn of the century vibe to it! It’s pure architectural beauty. Gran Hotel Sóller originally built in 1880 the peak of the international architecture style known as Modernism or Art Nouveau. The Gran Hotel Sóller was built as a small residential palace. Pamper yourself and enjoy a stay in this elegant five-star hotel which has a full spa facility, roof terrace with pool and a meal at C’an Blau Restaurant that has a wine cellar, al fresco dining, and serves Mallorcan cuisine.
Mallorca is known for its beautiful beaches and transparent waters. There are actually more than 300 beaches and coves and it is not always easy to know where to go. There is a beach for everyone no matter what you are looking for and here we suggest our favorites!
Portals Vells
Portals Vells is a wonderful beach with lots to discover in the southwestern part of Mallorca not far from Magaluf. A plus is that it is child-friendly and provides shade in the early afternoon. Many boats choose to dock in the bay to spend the day at the beach or to have lunch at the nice restaurant at the water’s edge. There are several caves and cliffs nearby to discover.
Cala Sa Nau
Cala Sa Nau is located about 13 kilometers from Portocolom and you can reach the beach both by boat, car and on foot (if you are up for an adventure). The beautiful sandy beach is surrounded by rocks and pine trees and offers crystal clear waters with excellent conditions for diving and snorkeling. There is a nice restaurant directly on the beach and the beach is wheelchair accessible.
Es Trenc
Perhaps the most beautiful beach in Mallorca, or as many Mallorcans call it: the Caribbean of Mallorca. Es Trenc is over 2 km long, white, fine sandy beach with a turquoise water in the southern part of Mallorca. Nearby are the wetlands where the salt Sal de Es Trenc is produced and if you come early in the morning you can see flamingos at the salt fields. There are several restaurants along the beach and we warn everyone easily shocked that Es Trenc is a popular nudist beach.
Cala Portals Nous
The beach of Portals Nous (Playa del Oratorio) offers crystal clear water just around the corner from the exclusive port of Portals Nous. The beach has a blue flag and is about 15 minutes away from central Palma. At the beach you will find several restaurants such as Roxy Beach directly on the water, a perfect place to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Cala Deiá
Cala Deiá is a beautiful pebble beach with rock ledges. You can reach the beach by car and park in the small parking lot which is quickly filled up with cars or to take a half hour walk from the village down to the beach. There are two restaurants on this picturesque beach, Can Lluc directly on the beach and Cas Patró on the cliffs with incredible views. Bring your snorkel and enjoy a wonderful day by the sea!
Es Calo des Moro
This is perhaps the most photographed beach in Mallorca, Calo des Moro, just outside Santanyi. You park about a 20 minutes walk from the beach and walk the last stretch. You can easily be discouraged by the crowd, but when you reach the cliff ledge and see the crystal clear turquoise water and the beautiful beach, it is well worth the effort. The sandy beach is small, mixed with large rocks and surrounded by rocks. Just next door is the small fishing village with the beach Cala S’Almunia.
Es Carbó
Es Carbó is the perfect beach for those looking for peace and quiet. To get here you either park in Colonia San Jordi and walk along the beach past the beach Es Dolc (about 20 minutes) or you park by the lighthouse in Ses Salines and walk about 5 km to Es Carbó. The beach is shallow and suitable for families with children (those who can walk there). Bring a picnic to the beach as all it offers is the amazing nature that surrounds it.
Mallorca’s fantastic climate invites you to enjoy the sea for most of the year. Whether you have a boat or not, there are many marinas that are well worth a visit for the beautiful views but also to try the excellent restaurants and shopping they offer.
Puerto Portals
The exclusive port of Puerto Portals is famous both for the luxury boats that are lined up but also for its lively atmosphere. It is a place to see and to be seen! The Spanish royal family usually chooses to dine at the classic restaurant Flanigan, which offers high-quality Mediterranean cuisine. If you prefer Asian food, you should choose Lucy Wang where you can enjoy Japanese food with a Mediterranean influence or the Japanese restaurant Tahini. There is also a nice sandy beach in Portals with a lovely turquoise water and a lovely “chiringuito” (beach restaurant) S´Esponja where you eat right in front of the water.
The exclusive marina Port Adriano is one of the most modern ports in the Mediterranean and has been created by designer Philippe Starck. In the summer, many nice events and concerts take place here. The marina offers a number of excellent restaurants and one of our absolute favorites is Vino del Mar which is one of the very best pasta restaurants on the island. Harbour Grill is also a popular restaurant and they offer barbecue dishes and typical Spanish dishes with a lovely view of the harbor. At pizzeria La Oca you will find everything from breakfast to pizzas and mojitos.
The port of Santa Ponsa “Club Nautico de Santa Ponsa” is one of the most picturesque ports in Mallorca. It is located in a natural inlet and has more than 500 berths. Here we find the restaurant 7Fuegos which serves creative Mediterranean food with excellent ingredients.
The port of Calanova in San Agustin just outside Palma, has recently been renovated into a modern marina with about 130 berths for boats up to 25 meters. The sailing school is known as one of the best and most popular ones. You can also rent boats, jet skis, SUP boards and kayaks among other things.
There are two restaurants in the harbor. Restaurant Bruno, which serves dishes with fresh ingredients that come directly from the market to the kitchen. Here you can enjoy a good paella, tapas and meat dishes on their sunny terrace. Nova del Mar, has a Scandinavian touch to the food and is the perfect place for a glass of wine to enjoy the sunset in the company of live music or a DJ.
Port d´Andratx is an elegant port located approximately 5 km from the village of Andratx. The port is surrounded by small bays perfect for sunbathing such as Cala Llamp and Cala Moragues. It is a cosmopolitan and lively place during the summer where many cultures mix and shopping, sun and nightlife are combined. Club de Vela de Andratx is a modern port with over 500 berths and its own restaurant, The Club de Vela, that is well known for its paella. Another restaurant we highly recommend is La Gourmeda that serves modern Mediterranean cuisine mixed with Asian flavors in a wonderful small, renovated Mallorcan finca overlooking the harbor.
Family-oriented Cala Major or Cala Mayor was expressly built as a beach resort with a broad stretch of sand overlooking the Bay of Palma, on the southwest coast. It’s one of the oldest tourist areas in Mallorca and it’s also where the Spanish royal family’s vacation home Marivent Palace (meaning “sea and wind” in Mallorquin) is located.
Cala Major has a mixed international community of permanent residents, including many locals. Here you will find all you need like grocery stores, banks and pharmacies. This area also has a selection of popular restaurants and bars and at a short distance you find the Porto Pi shopping mall. The area is well connected by public transport and everything is open all year round which makes it the perfect place to live. Cala Major has an active beach life thanks to its white sandy beach. The beach has good facilities for families and there is a wide range of fun water sports. In winter time the bay gets big waves therefore making it a popular spot for surfers. Popular San Agustin and the newly renovated Cala Nova harbour is also within walking distance.
These facts, together with the fact that the area is currently undergoing considerable improvements, makes it a good bet as a promising area for property buyers looking for opportunities. This is the ideal place if you want to live close to the beach with easy access to Palma, combining beach life with city breaks, because here you will have a holiday feeling all year round.
Kokomo Surf Café is located on Cala Major beach. It has a Californian vibe and is inspired by the 80s song from “the beach boys” which is very notable. It’s a magical place where you can enjoy a sangria or a cocktail, light lunch or a lush dinner under the stars. Kokomo also offers different water sports, and has a team of instructors that can guide and help you to discover paddle surfing, kayaking or surfing.
La Parada del Mar is a gem! This authentic fish and seafood restaurant offers a variety of fresh daily catches of what the Mediterranean offers. When you enter the restaurant the first thing you find is a fishmonger where you choose what you want to eat and it gets cooked for you on the spot.
This very lovely semi open air cafeteria/bar offers nice drinks and a great atmosphere! Make sure you go there on Fridays when they serve their very famous and popular choripan, an argentine style hotdog made with chorizo🌭
Have a taste of South Africa while enjoying the incredible sea view of Cala Major beach and the turquoise Mediterranean waves. Here you get a homely atmosphere, and a creative menu with South African specialities. Strongly recommend you to make your dinners memorable with the spectacular sunsets and vibey evenings! Try their peri-peri chicken or giant prawns, bobotie, Potjiekos accompanied and South African wine.
Mexican Tex-mex street food hang-out with a big heart. There’s something for everyone on the menu, including vegetarian, vegan, extra spicy, and gluten-free options. All the food is made fresh daily with local ingredients. Latin rhythm, rich aromas and homemade tequilas, what are you waiting for? ¡Ándale y arriba!
This hip place has a nice relaxing atmosphere, maybe thanks to its cool retro look. What better way to combine the Mediterranean breeze then with delicious drinks and a Mediterranean food. In Sodapop you find the Mallorquin specialty Pamboli and their menu is vegetarian friendly, with vegan and gluten free options as well.
Eat dinner right by the beach, accompanied by the sound of the sea and weaves. 5-star Nixe Palace Hotel offers the pleasure of fine dining by the sea with its beachfront location, nautical décor and Mediterranean cuisine. Fine signature cuisine with a Majorcan and Mediterranean twist and a touch of sea flavour and aroma. The Popa Sea Club is an exclusive gastronomic space where you can enjoy a gourmet tapas selection, rice dishes and fresh fish and seafood. Unforgettable summer days and nights in a privileged location overlooking Cala Major.
Lifestyle MALLORCAopened its doors 7 years ago and from then on, they have furnished many homes on the island. Behind this successful boutique are the owners and co founders’ Katrin Engström and Mimmo Mellone.
Katrinhas been living in Mallorca since 1985. After running a couple of restaurants, she felt a desire to progress in life. She has always had an interest in interior design, hence she decided to open the boutique where she could combine her creativity with what she knows best and has years of experience of service! Katrin realized that there was a need for a furniture store in Santa Catalina where crafts and quality are in focus and so Lifestyle MALLORCA, furniture, art & design was born.
The Covid 19 pandemic had Katrin and Mimmo to rethink and remodel their business and instead of maintaining their two stores, the one by Ramblas closed and PALMA BEDS, moved in next to Lifestyle MALLORCA expanding the boutiques size offering more options to the customers. A good night’s sleep is something we value and put effort into transmitting, explains Mimmo and continues by saying, “Our goal is to always offer great design and quality with the range of beds we have. And there is a bed for each need!”.
“The Swedish box spring beds are the best you can find on the market” Katrin says. The beds are hand made in Sweden with frames made from Swedish wood which is known for being almost unbreakable. That combined with the Swedish steel that is recognized for its flexibility and the individually packed springs adapt to your body letting you rest like no other kind of bed does. Then add on the mattress with memory foam. Memory foam is soft and resilient and moulds to your body and acts pressure relieving, it’s like if the mattress embraces you.
PALMA BEDS is a non-brand store that has many models and fabrics. They have Swedish beds with box springs as well as locally made beds with storage. Headboards in natural fabrics, night stands, mattresses and other interior details that enhance the bedroom and transform it to a true dream so that you wake up rested and can enjoy this gorgeous island!
Katrin and Mimmo draw inspiration from the Mediterranean lifestyle. “A home is a fun and relaxed space and not a museum,” says Katrin Engström. When I asked what sets them aside from other furniture stores, they answered; “Our handmade, customized furniture and outstanding service! Our Swedish box spring beds are always in stock for quick delivery and prices are very competitive.”
Katrin and Mimmo includes sustainability in their furniture by working with locally sourced material. “We work with locally produced, recycled and upcycled wood, organic and natural materials that are sustainable,” says Katrin. And according to the couple these are exactly the coming spring and summers trends, bright organic colours! If you are looking for some more easy tips to make design changes in your home this spring, or if it’s time to change or upgrade your old bed, pay them a visit in their very chic boutique in Santa Catalina.
Remember that as a client of Mallorcaresidencia you have -15% discount on Swedish beds.

Son Armadams is a high end residential area of Palma with a great location between Paseo Maritimo and the Bellver Park. Central Palma can be reached on foot by just a short walk and the popular Palma Tennis is located just between Son Armadams and Santa Catalina. Historically, Son Armadams has been one of the most exclusive areas of Palma and in the past mostly local residents lived here. This can still be seen along the wide streets that are surrounded by high trees and the big houses with large gardens. There are plenty of nice restaurants and bars in the area.
It is a quiet and safe area that is ideal for families with children as you will find both the Swedish and French school among many others nearby. The Bellver Castle and the large, surrounding park offer walking trails and a lovely green forest. Now that the nearby area El Terreno is being modernized with EU fundings and also with large local investments from one of the wealthiest families on the island Son Armadams will benefit from it. Son Armadams offers tranquility and a residential feeling with close proximity to Santa Catalina and the city centre.
Mallorcaresidencia offers 2 new exciting building projects in the area. The developers of the first project are from Finland and they believe in the area very much. The project offers high quality and luxury for our clients. This project is close to the Bellver Castle entrance and is a gated community with common pool, gardens and terraced apartments. The second project consists of private houses with garden, pool and large terraces.
More about these exciting projects can be seen in the following links.
From our perspective as real estate agents, Son Armadams is a good area to invest in as the prices are more attractive than in Santa Catalina and the Old Town. A wonderful mix of both Spaniards and mixed nationalities can be found living in the area. Son Armadams is an area that is on the rise and is constantly improving, so an investment will pay off in the long run. Here you live close to both the sea and the large green area of the Bellver Park.
